3 ways to care for boots made of non-oiled leather or cowhide

Taking care of boots made with untreated cowhide leather is essential to prolong their lifespan and maintain their appearance. Here are three effective ways to care for them:

  1. Regular cleaning: Cleaning is essential to remove dirt, dust, and other impurities that may accumulate on the boots over time. To clean them, use a soft brush or a lightly damp cloth to remove surface dirt. Avoid using excessive water as it could damage the untreated leather.
  2. Hydration with leather conditioner: Even though they are not greased, leather still needs hydration to remain flexible and prevent dryness and cracking. Use a leather conditioner specifically designed for untreated leathers. Apply the conditioner following the manufacturer’s instructions and make sure to do so in a well-ventilated area.
  3. Proper storage: When not wearing the boots, store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and excessive heat. Ideally, place them on a shelf or in a storage box with tissue paper or cardboard to maintain their shape. Avoid storing them near heat sources or in damp areas as both can damage the leather.

Remember that each type of leather may have its own care specifications, so it’s always advisable to consult the manufacturer’s recommendations or seek specialized advice if you’re unsure how to care for your untreated cowhide leather boots specifically.
